2016 was a year where I learned a tough lesson in trading. The lesson was how dangerous it is to become complacent. I’ll be honest from 2011 to 2016 90% of my trading income came from two simple strategies that I was able to do day in and day out. These strategies required some simple maintenance and tinkering from time to time but for the most part they were pretty mechanical and easy for me to execute. In 2016 the first of these strategies started dying and then stopped working completely. I believe what I was doing became too wide…

Keeping with the idea of transparency for what a day traders results look like month to month here are my 2014 results! I finished the year up $212,001.35! The most important statistics to look at are the Average day, W:L, and % Win and how these interact with each other. See my Basic Trading Math post for more details on this. I also separated the days to see if the day of week made a difference at all to my trading.  This isn’t as important as the other stats but I left the details in.

Here’s a quick look at my 10 best and worst days during my day trading career. Looking at these days I think there is some important things to point out and that is controlling your losses and letting winners ride. There are some strategies where your win rate may be super high and this will allow for some inevitable bigger losses but this is not the case for my strategies where I am profitable roughly 60 to 65% of the time. If you have a win rate similar to mine you MUST keep your losses under control, a bad day shouldn’t be…
